The present invention relates to an over-the-needle (OTN) catheter assembly. The OTN catheter assembly includes a catheter disposed coaxially with the needle so as to surround the needle. In one embodiment, the structural member including the coil insert is embedded in the inner wall of the catheter, thereby preventing the catheter from twisting when inserting the catheter into the body of the patient. In another embodiment, the structural member is constructed separately from the catheter and is inserted into the catheter after placing the OTN catheter assembly at the target site within the patients body and withdrawing the needle.
