The present invention relates to a retractable needle single use safety syringe having a retraction control module (1302,2302) comprising a hollow cylindrical tube with a distal axial extension (1303,2303) forming a central cantilever (1310,2310) with a central opening, and a proximal eccentric anchoring plate (802,902) forming an engagement geometry to engage and anchor a needle (1014,2014) holder to the module. The needle holder having an advanced position in which a needle (13) on its distal end projects from a distal end of said syringe, and a retracted position in which said needle is retracted within said syringe. A plunger (11) compressibly engaged with a resilient cap (12) passing through said cylindrical tube and having two parallel walls (60,62) defining a central open channel (33) that contact with the eccentric anchoring plate. The plunger having a distally advanced position and ramps (70,72) on said parallel walls which deflect the anchoring plate radially to disengage the needle holder. The anchoring plate with extension preventing the expansion of a helical compressed spring (300) encircling the needle holder.
