A system and method for placing a prosthetic acetabular cup within an acetabulum are disclosed. The system may comprise an acetabular cup with an eccentric socket. The acetabular cup may be substantially hemispherical with a cup rim and a portion of the cup rim removed defining a relief. The cup may accommodate a concentric liner in an eccentric position. Screw apertures may be present on the periphery of the cup and the screw trajectories may converge toward the dome of the cup. The cup is attached to a tool which is offset relative to the cup because of the substantially eccentric socket. The relief, when the cup is secured to the acetabulum, is positioned substantially anterior and the socket is positioned more posterior to provide a more natural center of rotation of a femoral head within the socket. The first relief reduces impingement of the acetabular cup on soft tissue.La présente invention concerne un système et une méthode permettant de placer une coupe acétabulaire prothétique dans un acétabulum. Ledit système comprend une coupe acétabulaire pourvue d'un socle excentrique. Ladite coupe acétabulaire peut être sensiblement hémisphérique, avec un bord de coupe et une partie du bord de coupe supprimée définissant un relief. La coupe peut être accueillie dans une doublure concentrique dans une position excentrique. Des ouvertures de vis peuvent être présentes sur la périphérie de la coupe et les trajectoires de vis peuvent converger en direction du dôme de la coupe. Ladite coupe est fixée à un outil qui est décalé par rapport à la coupe en raison du socle sensiblement excentrique. Le relief, lorsque la coupe est fixée à l'acétabulum, est positionné de manière sensiblement antérieure, et le socle est positionné de manière davantage postérieure, afin de procurer un centre de rotation plus naturel d'une tête de fémur à l'intérieur du socle. Le premier relief diminue l'incidence de la coupe acétabulaire sur la partie molle.
