A system for providing beneficial insects or mites in a protected cropping environment comprising a carrier ribbon 8 with a plurality of preferably planar sachets (10, fig 1) carried thereon. Each sachet comprises a dispensing compartment for beneficial insects or mites and at least one emergence hole (6, fig 1) on one side of the compartment so that insects or mites can emerge and be dispensed in the protected cropping environment. The system is provided in a casing 14 to aid distribution. The casing may be a hexagonal container with an opening 16 in one side and the ribbon may be arranged as a roll. More than one ribbon may be housed within the casing. Different insects may be provided in each sachet or the sachets may house the same insect in different forms.
