Hedge trimming apparatus comprises an elongate beam 10, a hedge trimmer 34 mounted on the beam for movement along the length of the beam with the blade 38 of the trimmer extending laterally from the beam. Also provided is a means for driving the trimmer along the beam and a control mounted at a fixed point on the beam for controlling movement of the trimmer along the beam and for controlling the trimmer itself. Preferably the control is in the form of a control box 20 with switches for controlling electrical power to a motor. Advantageously an operator can control and switch the trimmer itself on and off, while standing on the ground. In use the beam is placed upright alongside a hedge, with one end of the beam on the ground for trimming tall hedges without having to climb a ladder.
