PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating central nervous system (CNS) related disorders such as status epilepticus, traumatic brain injury, and seizures. A method of treating a CNS-related injury, comprising administering an effective amount of an allopregnanolone-administered formulation in a cyclodextrin carrier. Dosing that includes a first period in which a first dose of allopregnanolone is administered to the subject every hour, followed by a second period in which a lower infusion dose of allopregnanolone is administered every hour. A regimen is preferred. A method in which the allopregnanolone is infused by a loading dose administered over 1 hour followed by a maintenance infusion for the next 95 hours, after which the dose is reduced and tapered. Allopregnanolone is preferably formulated as a cyclodextrin carrier together with 6% pharmaceutical grade sulfobutyl ether-β cyclodextrin (SBEβCD).
