The furnace (10) has a furnace hood (16) that is positioned in a furnace base (11). The furnace hood is equipped with a combustion chamber for receiving dental restorations. A temperature sensor (20) is provided for continuously detecting the temperature of the dental restorations. A control device (30) is provided for controlling a drive element (18) which is relatively moved between the furnace hood and the furnace base, based on the temperature of the dental restoration detected by the temperature sensor.
