The invention relates to a shipping container ventilation apparatus which includes a collection nozzle arranged to project into the interior of a shipping container. The apparatus also includes a transport duct connected to the collection nozzle, the transport duct having a length at least equal to the thickness of a shipping container door and being arranged to extend from the exterior of a shipping container to the interior of the shipping container when located between two closed container doors. A pressure equalisation chamber is also provided which is connected to the transport duct distal to the collection nozzle, the pressure equalisation chamber having a height at least equal to the height of the transport duct. The invention also includes at least one gas line coupling associated with the pressure equalisation chamber, and is arranged so that the width of the collection nozzle is at least greater than the width of the transport duct. In preferred forms the invention can provide a portable apparatus used in the fumigation and/or subsequent ventilation of a shipping container which can be used by one person to quickly ventilate a container.
