Provided are an ultrasound diagnosis apparatus and a method of controlling an ultrasound diagnosis apparatus capable of improving the operability of a touch operation.An ultrasound diagnosis apparatus (1) includes a touch panel (8) having a display screen, a caliper generation unit (9) that displays a caliper on the display screen, a caliper operation controller (10) that displays, on the display screen, a caliper operation effective region, which surrounds the caliper and in which the caliper is moved and operated, and an apparatus controller (11) that, in a case where a user touches the caliper operation effective region displayed on the display screen, performs control such that the caliper operation controller (10) stops the display of the caliper operation effective region, in a case where the user moves a touch position while touching the caliper operation effective region, performs control such that the caliper generation unit (9) moves a position of the caliper following the movement of the touch position, and in a case where the user releases the touch operation, performs control such that the caliper operation controller (10) resumes the display of the caliper operation effective region, which surrounds the caliper corresponding to the moved position of the caliper.
