The present disclosure is related to a circuit for measuring the heartbeat in a non-invasive manner, beat to beat. The invention consists in detecting the pulse through a piezoresistive sensor, placed on the skin in those areas where large arteries are found. The piezoresistive sensor is directly connected to a digital input and output microcontroller pin, without intermediate active electronic circuits between the sensor and the microcontroller. A capacitor is also connected to a microcontroller digital pin, through which is charged to a voltage level depending on the power of the microcontroller, and is discharged through the sensor’s resistance which changes each time it detects a heartbeat. These changes in the resistance also produce changes in the discharging time of the capacitor, and the microcontroller measures these changes. Using an algorithm implemented in the same microcontroller used to build the interface, is possible to estimate the frequency from a heart rate signal. For energy saving purposes, the sensor is fed through the input and output terminals of the microcontroller, which supplies a current to the sensor following a specific programming logic. The numerical representation of the frequency is obtained using any external device to the circuit, having a wireless communication module.
