PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a woody material for cultivating mushrooms, obtained by integrating small-diameter short trees of a plurality of trees, and a method for cultivating mushroom using the woody material.SOLUTION: (1) The woody material for cultivating mushrooms includes sawdust 2 densely filled in a clearance (a gap) formed when bundling and integrating the woody material 1. (2) The woody material for cultivating mushrooms, described in (1) includes the sawdust 2 such that the volume ratio of the sawdust 2 to the volume of the woody material 1 is 0.1 or less. (3) The woody material for cultivating mushrooms, described in (1) or (2) is formed such that the diameter of the woody material 1 is less than 5 cm. (4) In the woody material for cultivating mushrooms, described in (1)-(3), the mushrooms are Lentinus edodes, Mycoleptodonoides aitchisonii, Hericium erinaceum, Pheurotus citrinopileatus, Naematoloma sublateritium, Pleurotus ostreatus or Ganoderma lucidum. (5) The woody material for cultivating mushrooms, described in (1)-(4) uses the woody material 1 and sawdust 2 derived from the same variety.
