The present disclosure is related to the production of a new drug for the treatment of Hepatic Encephalopathy (HE), which consists of recombinant viruses, in particular baculoviruses, which over-expresses one or more of the ammonia metabolism enzymes including Glutamine synthetase (GS), in various tissues of the patient and with the purpose of reducing the acute hyperammonemia and relief the signs and symptoms of HE. The recombinant baculovirus Bac-GS developed in the present invention expresses the RNAm and the GS and, as a result, reduces the levels of ammonium in the in-vitro and in-vivo medium. For this purpose, a new in-vitro hyperammonemia model was generated. This new drug called Bac-GS can be used to reduce acute hyperammonemia in patients with urea cycle disorders and other diseases with high ammonia levels, such as: acute and chronic liver failure, hepatocellular carcinoma and diseases related to neuropsychiatric disorders.La presente invención se refiere a la producción de un nuevo fármaco para el tratamiento de la Encefalopatía Hepática (EH), el cual consiste en virus recombinantes, particularmente baculovirus, que sobre-expresa a una o varias de las enzimas del metabolismo del amonio, entre ellas la glutamina sintetasa (GS), en varios tejidos del paciente y con la finalidad de reducir la hiperamonemia aguda y aliviar los signos y síntomas de la EH. El baculovirus recombinante Bac-GS desarrollado en la presente invención expresa el RNAm y la proteína de GS y como una consecuencia reduce los niveles de amonio en el medio en ensayos in vitro e in vivo. Para ello se generó un nuevo modelo de hiperamonemia in vitro. Este nuevo fármaco denominado Bac-GS puede ser utilizado para disminuir la hiperamonemia aguda en pacientes con desórdenes del ciclo de la urea y otras enfermedades con altos niveles de amonio, tales como: falla hepática aguda y crónica, hepatocarcinoma y enfermedades relacionadas con desórdenes neuropsiquiátricos.
