An aerated tree pit comprising a tree pit (11) including at least one anti-soil-compaction means (17) with sidewalls and a base, an air inlet (25) in fluid communication with the atmosphere and said sidewalls and/or base, an outlet (31) in fluid communication with said sidewalls and base, and with the atmosphere, means (35, 39) to urge air to pass from said inlet (25) to said outlet (31) and passing through said sidewalls and/or base providing for aeration of said tree pit (11).
