The present invention relates to compounds of formula II or pharmaceutically acceptable salts and polymorphs, solvates, enantiomers, stereoisomers and hydrates thereof. The present invention further relates to pharmaceutical compositions comprising an effective amount of a compound of formula II and methods for treating or preventing multiple sclerosis. The composition can be formulated for oral, buccal, rectal, topical, transdermal, transmucosal, intravenous or parenteral administration, as a syrup, or for injection. Such compositions can be used for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases and other inflammatory diseases.
