A compound comprising one or more polysaccharide moieties each independently represented by the formula β(1→4)-[GlcNH-R]n-2,5-anhydromannose, wherein n is a positive integer from 3 to 500, and R is H or an acyl group, is described. The compound can be manufactured by (a) reacting chitosan with an acylating agent sufficient to partially N-acylate the chitosan, yielding a modified chitin/chitosan mixed polymer and (b) reacting the modified chitin/chitosan mixed polymer with a deaminating agent to cleave the mixed polymer at the unacylated chitosan moieties. The compound can be used to immunize against fungal infection. Antibodies specific to the compound, and the use of such antibodies to protect against fungal infection are also described.La présente invention concerne un composé comprenant une ou plusieurs fractions de polysaccharides représentées chacune indépendamment par la formule β(1→4)-[GlcNH-R]n-2,5-anhydromannose, dans laquelle n représente un entier positif de 3 à 500, et R représente H ou un groupe acyle. Le composé peut être fabriqué en (a) mettant en réaction le chitosane avec un agent dacylation en quantité suffisante pour N-acyler partiellement le chitosane, ce qui donne un polymère mixte chitine/chitosane modifié et en (b) mettant en réaction le polymère mixte chitine/chitosane modifié avec un agent de désamination pour cliver le polymère mixte au niveau des fractions de chitosane non acylé. Le composé peut être utilisé pour immuniser contre une infection fongique. Linvention concerne également des anticorps spécifiques au composé et lutilisation de tels anticorps pour protéger contre une infection fongique.
