ABSTRACT A bio-pesticidal formulation comprising the extracts of Oceanobacillus sp. (MTCC 8720), Bacillus pumilus (ATCC 7061), Bacillus pumilus (ATCC 19646), Streptomyces graminearus (NRRL B-16369) and Streptomyces hygroscopicus (ATCC 27438), metabolites, metabolite-containing supernatant, whole broth cultures thereof which when cultured under appropriate conditions is capable of producing at least one insecticidally active substance. The invention also relates to a process for the preparation of the bio-pesticidal formulation. The invention also relates to a method for protecting or treating plants by applying an effective amount of the claimed bio-pesticidal formulation to plants or to the soil. Further the invention also relates to a method of controlling pests by applying to the pests or to the locus of the pests an insecticidally effective amount of a culture of bacteria or its strains, variants or mutants thereof. The invention also relates to a plant growth promoting response leading to higher biomass production and yield.
