Thepresent studies indicate that 5-methyl-1,3-benzenediol or its derivativesrepresented by Formula I,wherein the constituent variables are as defined herein or pharmaceuticalcompositions thereofcontaining them show more significant antidepressant effects than fluoxetineor imipramine.(see formula I)
