PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sleepiness sensor capable of easily and quickly sensing the sleepiness of a target person to be observed with high robustness, especially useful when applied to a vehicle.
SOLUTION: The sleepiness sensor comprises a photographing means 2 for photographing the face of the target person A, a pupil area detecting means 4 for detecting the area of the pupil from the captured face image, and a sleepiness sensing means 5 for sensing the sleepiness of the target person by comparing the detected pupil area with a reference value.
