Fish bait additive comprising colourless synthetic oil having a specific gravity greater than 1. The oil is subsequently has a greater density than water, to assist the bait to sink. The oil is colourless so that its presence does not affect the attractiveness of bait to fish. The oil may comprise at least one glycerol ester or trimester, such as triacetin. The oil may be flavourless. Also disclosed is a fishing bait composition including the additive, the additive may be present in an amount of at least 1% w/w. The fish bait may be in the form of pellets and the additive may be a coating on the fish bait surface. Also disclosed is a method of producing the fish bait composition, and use of a colourless synthetic oil having a specific gravity greater than 1 as a fish bait additive.
