PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a wheelchair from moving back even when a traveling road is an uphill.SOLUTION: For a safety device for a wheelchair, a support means is attached to a frame of the wheelchair, and a rotating roller incorporating a one-way clutch in the support means is attached to the outer circumference of a wheel so as to be brought into press contact with or to be separated from it. When the one-way clutch brings the rotating roller into press contact with the outer circumferential part of the wheel, the wheel can be rotated in an advancing direction of the wheelchair but cannot be rotated in a backward direction.
