The present invention provides a chewing gum composition comprising a gum base matrix and a bulk portion, wherein the chewing gum composition comprises nicotine and includes a cross-linked polyacrylic acid, such as a carbomer, added in an amount of 0.1 to 5.0% by weight of the chewing gum composition.
