Disclosed is a fast dissolving solid dosage form for the release of a biologically active therapeutic material in an oral cavity wherein said dosage form comprises: a) a biologically active material and b) a matrix forming agent comprising between 2 and 20% purified amylopectin by dry weight of the solid dosage form, and optionally a second matrix forming agent such as sodium carboxymethylcellulose, microcrystalline cellulose, glycine or mannitol wherein said dosage form substantially dissolves in the oral cavity in less than 1 minute without leaving a residue of said dosage form in the oral cavity that is detectable by a subject. Also disclosed is a method of producing a fast dissolving solid dosage form for the release of a biologically active therapeutic material in an oral cavity, comprising the steps of: i) combining a matrix forming agent comprising between 2 and 20% purified amylopectin by dry weight of the solid dosage form with a biologically active material to form a homogeneous mixture and ii) freeze drying the mixture to form the solid dosage form wherein said dosage form substantially dissolves in the oral cavity in less than 2 minutes without leaving a residue of said dosage form in the oral cavity that is detectable by a subject.
