A customizable and upgradeable imaging system is provided. The imaging detector column is installed in the gantry to receive imaging information about the subject part. The imaging detector column can be extended or retracted in the radial direction and can be pivoted on the track around the gantry. The gantry can partially mount the detector column and the detector column can partially mount the detector element. The system can automatically adjust imaging operations based on installation information related to partial wearing or other factors such as scan type or individual information of the subject.
