A tongue-tie 10 comprising a rigid or semi-rigid tongue-engaging member 12, means for holding the animals tongue 14A against the tongue-engaging member, and means for coupling the tongue-engaging member to the animals head 14B. The tongue-engaging member 12 may be a plate or rod with two ends 16, 18 and a concave, tongue contacting underside surface 22 with optional anti slip material. The means 14A, and 14B may be a single flexible, adjustable strap 14 coupled to the device by apertures 36, 38. In use, the horses tongue is passed through loop 40 such that the tongue engaging member 12 sits on the tongue and prevents the tongue moving over the bit and/or blocking the airway.
