PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a subject information acquisition apparatus capable of performing aperture synthesis with high accuracy even when the number of channels of a transmission/reception circuit is small.SOLUTION: A subject information acquisition apparatus 1 comprises: a probe 2 which sends an acoustic wave to a subject E by an opening composed of a plurality of elements, and performs electronic scan by receiving a reflection wave of the acoustic wave within the subject and outputting a reception signal a processing unit 5 which acquires characteristic information within the subject E by using the reception signal and a scanning unit 60 which moves the position of the probe 2 with respect to the object E in a first direction and a second direction crossing the first direction. The probe 2 performs the electronic scan while moving in the first direction. The scanning unit 60 moves the probe 2 in the same direction as the first direction plural times.
