PURPOSE: A composition for skin whitening with an effect of suppressing melanogenesis is provided. CONSTITUTION: A composition for skin whitening contains seaweed extract or a portion of the seaweed extract as an active ingredient. The seaweed extract is isolated using methanol, distilled water, ethanol, acetone, ethyl acetate, saturated noram butanol, chloroform, methylene chloride, water, or a mixture solvent thereof. The seaweed includes Petalonia binghamiae, Sargassum nipponicum Yendo, Dictyopteris divaricata, and Myelophycus simplex. The portion is obtained by extracting with water, distilled water, ethanol, or a mixture solvent, removing extraction solvent, and fractioning into ethanol layer and, ethyl acetate layer.
