Disclosed is the use of a topical gel composition for the treatment of actinic keratosis comprising (a) an active agent for treatment of actinic keratosis, such as a cyclooxygenase inhibitor, a topical immune modulator or an antimetabolite (fluorouracil), (b) a keratolytically active agent, such as a retinoid receptor agonist, urea, or an organic acid, particularly hydroxy carboxylic acids (salicyclic acid), (c) a gel former, and (d) an organic solvent wherein the composition comprises less than 5 per cent water.
