A pillow support unit 100 for reducing the level of noise caused by snoring comprises a passive component for absorption of sound waves and an active component for sensing a sound and emitting a waveform to reduce the level of noise. The passive component may feature an acoustic barrier formed from an open cell foam that can reduce the sound pressure level of high sound frequencies. The active assembly may provide active noise control to reduce sound pressure at low sound frequencies and may have a plurality of microphones for detecting noise and loudspeakers for emitting anti-noise. The pillow support unit may be substantially L-shaped having a first shorter length 106 perpendicular to a second longer length 102. In use the passive component may be upright and may comprise the first length of the L-shape.
