In the course of the pulse mode welding process at least a first time interval (21, 21, 23) with strong light emission and a second time interval (22) with reduced and/or negligible light emission are repeated with a repetition rate, and a point in time of a beginning of the first time interval (21) is associated with a raising edge event (71). The method comprises the step of darkening the auto-darkening welding filter (1) to a first darkening level (51) at a point in time of the raising edge event (71) that is associated with a next first time interval (21, 23).
