The present invention relates to a detection system for determining the position of a piston within a fluid container. The detection system includes a light source, a light detector and a controller. The light source is configured to emit light within a fluid container drum wall so that the drum wall serves as a waveguide that directs light on its path from it in an axial direction. The light detector is positioned to detect reflected light that was emitted by the light source, traveled through the drum wall serving as the waveguide, and then reflected from a piston surface. The controller is in communication with the light detector to determine the axial position of the plunger surface based on the light detector data of the detected reflected light.a presente invenção refere-se a um sistema de detecção para determinar a posição de um êmbolo dentro de um contêiner de fluido. o sistema de detecção inclui uma fonte de luz, um detector de luz e um controlador. a fonte de luz está configurada para emitir luz dentro de uma parede de tambor do contêiner de fluido para que a parede do tambor sirva como um guia de ondas que orienta a luz em seu trajeto a partir da mesma em uma direção axial. o detector de luz é posicionado para detectar a luz refletida que foi emitida pela fonte de luz, viajou através da parede do tambor servindo como o guia de ondas e em seguida, refletiu a partir de uma superfície do êmbolo. o controlador está em comunicação com o detector de luz para determinar a posição axial da superfície do êmbolo com base nos dados do detector de luz da luz refletida detectada.
