Disclosed herein are myeloperoxidase inhibitors of formula I where the substituents are as defined herein, pharmaceutical compositions containing such inhibitors and the use of such inhibitors to treat, for example, cardiovascular conditions. Specific examples of the compounds of formula I include 6-(2,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-thioxo-2,3-dihydropyrimidin-4(1H)-one, 2-(6-(2,5-dimethoxyphenyl)-4-oxo-2-thioxo-3,4-dihydropyrimidin-1(2H)-yl)acetamide and N-(2-aminoethyl)-2-[6-(2,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-4-oxo-2-thioxo-3,4-dihydropyrimidin-1(2H)-yl]acetamide.
