ABSTRACT A PROCESS FOR PREPARING AN ANTIMICROBIAL ABSORBENT COTTON Disclosed is a process for preparing an antimicrobial absorbent cotton, comprising: a) Mechanically cleaning the raw uncleaned cotton to obtain cleaned cotton b) Scouring & bleaching the obtained clean cotton to obtain bleached cotton c) subjecting the obtained bleached cotton to antimicrobial finish by treating it with an antimicrobial agent in presence of an acetic acid to obtain antimicrobial bleached cotton d) subjecting wet antimicrobial bleached cotton to centrifugal extraction to obtain wet lumps of antimicrobial bleached cotton e) opening and drying the antimicrobial bleached cotton to obtain bales of antimicrobial absorbent cotton. The bleached cotton is subjected to antimicrobial finish by treating 1 Tonne of bleached cotton with 0.25 Kg to 10 kgs of antimicrobial agent at the temperature range of 40°C to 90°C for 10- 60 minutes at atmospheric pressure and by maintaining the pH between 5 to 7 by using an acetic acid. The cotton produced by above method possess 10 times more antimicrobial activity than the normal cotton.
