A container for clinical waste formed from a foldable substrate comprises a base 4, a generally tubular body, and a lid. The generally tubular body has a top edge having a lip portion, the lip portion formed between a first fold line 20 and a second fold line 22. The lid is sealingly attachable to the lip portion. Adhesive may be provided on the lip portion for securing the lid. The container is formed from a generally cross-shaped blank and has a square or rectangular shaped base 4 with side walls 6, 6, 8, 8’ attached to each side of the base. Flaps 14, 14’, 16, 16’ extend from the opposite ends of the side panels and these are folded over to provide a double thickness of substrate along the upper part of the container body to provide reinforcement. Gusset panels 10a-10h are provided between the edges of adjacent side walls. The substrate may be coated with a waterproof or moisture resistant material.
