PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for emitting an active substance capable of decomposing organic substances by oxidation into the air from a photocatalytic material.
SOLUTION: Titanium oxide (IV) chemically linked with a halogen and containing an oxoacid is used. An active-oxygen-containing compound such as hydrogen peroxide or a halogen oxide such as hypochlorous acid is formed by irradiating the titanium oxide (IV) with ultraviolet rays from a light source and emitted into the air from the titanium oxide by diffusion. The emitted active substance reacts with odorants floating in the air or microorganisms such as bacteria adhering to a solid surface, to perform deodorization or disinfection.
