The present disclosure provides a drug waste system for processing a residual drug composition disposed in a drug dispenser. The drug waste system includes an extraction stage, a drug dispenser joint, and a drug waste processing stage. The extraction stage is in fluid communication with the drug dispenser and is configured to extract at least a portion of the residual drug composition from the drug dispenser. A drug dispenser coupling is configured to couple a drug dispenser to the extraction stage. The drug waste treatment stage is in fluid communication with the extraction stage and is configured to transform the residual drug waste composition extracted from the drug dispenser in one of a chemical approach and a physical approach.
