The present invention relates to the field of biomedicine and in particular to the treatment of cancer and preventing and/or treating resistance to cancer drugs and therapies, and delaying or preventing tumor recurrence. Specifically, it relates to secoiridoid polyphenol compound of formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or prodrug thereof, for use in a method of treating a subject suffering from cancer by inhibiting,or reducing the frequency of,cancer stem cells (CSCs).
