According to embodiments of the disclosure, a water absorbent copolymer and a method for preparing the same are provided. The water absorbent copolymer includes a product prepared by polymerizing a composition. The composition includes a (a) first monomer, a (b) second monomer, an (c) initiator, and a (d) crosslinking agent, wherein the (a) first monomer includes 1-vinyl-3-(3-sulfopropyl) imidazolium betaine, and the (b) the second monomer includes an acrylic acid, acrylic salt, itaconic acid, itaconic salt, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, or a combination thereof.根據本發明一實施例,本發明係提供一種吸水性共聚合物及其製備方法。該吸水性共聚合物係由一組合物進行一聚合反應而成。其中,該組合物包括:一(a)第一單體,其中該第一單體係為1-乙烯基-3-(3-磺丙基)咪唑鎓甜菜鹼(1-vinyl-3-(3-sulfopropyl)imidazolium betaine);一(b)第二單體,其中該第二單體係為丙烯酸(acrylic acid)、丙烯酸鹽(acrylic salt)、衣康酸(itaconio acid)、衣康酸鹽(itaconic salt)、2-甲基-2-丙烯酸-2-羥乙基酯(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate,HEMA)、或上述之組合;一(c)起始劑;以及,一(d)交聯劑。
