There is provided a tampon applicator that is water-sensitive (e.g., water-soluble, water-dispersible, etc.) in that it loses its integrity over time in the presence of water. The tampon applicator can be discarded in the toilet without any risk of clogging the sewer. The tampon applicator comprises a molded thermoplastic composition comprising a cellulose derivative, a synthetic water soluble polymer, and a plasticizer.
