The invention provides oligouronates, especially oligoguluronic acids, for use in medicine. In particular, oligouronates for use in the reduction of mucosal hyperviscosity in the digestive tract are provided. Such oligouronates may in particular be used in the treatment of constipation associated with mucosal hyperviscosity in the gut.
