The furrow following device (50, 250) comprising: an attachment bracket (52, 252) having a portion provided for attachment to a row unit (24) of a planting machine (20)； an arm (56, 256) provided with a ground-facing surface (64, 264) for engagement with the soil during planting； and a mount (60, 260) having a first portion coupled to the attachment bracket (52, 252), the mount (60, 260) further having a second portion at least partially defining a pivot connection with the arm (56, 256), the pivot connection providing relative rotation between the arm (56, 256) and the mount (60, 260)； wherein the mount (60, 260) is a compliant mount provided with a spring (80, 80', 280) that exhibits an elastic bias force as the arm (56, 256) is raised toward the attachment bracket (52, 252).
