An &ldquooutdoor&rdquo animal shelter structure with four sides, two opposite sides being major sides, includes a water impervious canopy (22) that is made of a material that is partially light transmissive and at least one side curtain (31). The canopy (22) is supported above at least part of a floor by side supports. The side curtain (31) at least partially covers at least one of the major sides and extends at least some way between the canopy (22) and the ground. The curtain (31) can be disposed so as to leave a gap (32) between the ground and the curtain (31) to allow air to flow below the curtain (31) and into space below the canopy and to leave a gap between the canopy and the top of the curtain to allow air to flow above the curtain and into the space below the canopy. The canopy is provided with a closable opening 39 to allow air to vent from the canopy.
