A mechanical device (100) for the removal of a debris from an eye, comprising； a rigid member (108), the rigid member having a distal end portion (110) and a proximal end portion (112), the distal end portion having a surface (122) with a width that is greater than the width of the proximal end portion； a scrubbing strip (104) configured to be coupled the distal end portion； and a mechanical drive unit (102) having a body (124), the mechanical drive unit being secured to the proximal end portion of the rigid member, wherein the mechanical drive unit operably moves the scrubbing strip relative to the body facilitating removal of the debris from on the eye.
