The crown (24) is made of a roughly shaped basic element to be finished with an articulator. The tooth (12) is shaped into a tapering central part with a ring-shaped surrounding base in a first step. A first metal cover (16), still slightly tapering, is glued to the tooth (12) and the crown (24) positioned on top. The space between all layers (12, 16, 24) is filled with a glue (26, 36). The final shaping in the articulator is performed by starting at the top. The crown (24) can also be made of a separate upper (38) and surrounding part (40).
