PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily provide an RX type balloon catheter in which operability when the balloon catheter is inserted from out of a body along a guide wire is improved and a response to the extension/contraction of a balloon is improved without complicating steps and without increasing a manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: The balloon catheter comprises a rear end side shaft composed of a metal tube, a distal end shaft composed of a tube made of a resin, the balloon, a guide wire lumen, and an inflation lumen. The catheter further comprises a core wire disposed in the inflation lumen so that the rear end side of the distal end shaft is harder than the distal end side of the distal end shaft and softer than the rear end side shaft and fixed to the distal end side shaft only near the opening of the rear end side of the guide wire lumen.
