PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide compositions and methods related to improving pharmacological properties of bioactive compounds targeting the nervous system.SOLUTION: This invention relates to an isolated polypeptide which comprises an amino acid sequence at least about 90% identical to, e.g., a galanin analog comprising a specific amino acid sequence having anticonvulsant activity, or has one or more conservative amino acid substitutions.
