A tool assembly (107) includes first and second jaw members (108, 110). A cartridge assembly (112) includes an actuation sled (115) and a slide (160). A drive member (D) having a working end (101) is configured to translate through the tool assembly (107) when the first and second jaw members (108, 110) are in a closed configuration. A lock assembly (130) including a latch (132) is movable from a locked position to an unlocked position. The latch (132) is urged to the locked position to engage the working end (101) to prevent distal translation of the drive member (D) through the tool assembly (107). The slide (160) is configured to move the latch (132) from the locked position to the unlocked position upon installation of an unspent cartridge assembly (112) onto the first jaw member (108).
