Disclosed is a method for performing and/or ensuring accurate temperature readings of an animal of interest (200). The method comprises detecting (S100) an animal of interest (200) and performing (S110) an area temperature reading of the animal of interest (200). The method further comprises obtaining (S120) an image (220) of the animal of interest (200) from the same point in time as the area temperature reading and based on the image (220) and the area temperature reading, determining (S130) if the area temperature reading is accurate, wherein performing the area temperature reading of the animal of interest (200) comprises measuring the temperature of a predetermined area (210) when the animal of interest (200) is within the predetermined area (210).
