PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reliable guide wire whose leading end covering layer hardly comes off.SOLUTION: The guide wire 1 includes: a wire body 2 made of a flexible or soft core material 3 constituting a leading end 31 and a body 32 provided at the base of the end 31, a leading end covering layer 4 made of a soft material covering the surface of the end 31, and a body covering layer 5 covering the surface of the body 32. The body covering layer 5 has a ground layer 6 covering the surface of the core material 3, and a surface layer 7 formed on the surface of the ground layer 6. The ground layer 6 includes a first part 61 with its surface covered with the surface layer 7, and a second part 62 not covered with the surface layer 7. The base 41 of leading end covering layer 4 is adhered to and overlapped with the surface of the second part 62.
