The invention relates to a phoropter (100) comprising: - a housing having a front face which includes a first optical window, and a rear face that includes a second optical window which is aligned with the first optical window in relation to a viewing optical axis； and - at least one vision correction device for seeing along the viewing optical axis. Between the first window and the second window, the vision correction device comprises a first optical element having spherical power along the variable optical axis. The housing is mounted on an orientable holder (104) which can rotate about a horizontal axis (H) in relation to a stationary part (102). A method for measuring refraction using a phoropter of said type is also described.L'invention concerne un réfracteur (100) comprenant : - une enceinte comprenant une face avant présentant une première fenêtre optique et une face arrière présentant une seconde fenêtre optique alignée avec la première fenêtre optique selon un axe optique d'observation； et - au moins un dispositif de compensation visuelle permettant d'observer selon l'axe optique d'observation.
