PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an anti-inflammatory composition characterized in being based on &beta-1,4-mannobiose, having the function of inhibiting producing interleukin 8(IL-8) so as not to exhibit overdefensive reaction in bacterial infection, and having the effects of preventing septicemia, rheumatism and inflammatory intestinal diseases or mitigating these symptoms, and to provide food/drink or feed containing the composition.
SOLUTION: The anti-inflammatory composition or agent contains &beta-1,4-mannobiose. Preferably, this anti-inflammatory composition or agent contains, as active ingredient, a water-soluble component of a &beta-1,4-mannobiose-containing composition that is obtained by making a mannan-splitting enzyme act on coconut cake, copra meal or palm kernel meal so as to form &beta-1,4-mannobiose at 10 wt.% or greater per weight of mannan contained therein.
